Helen Mirren turned the air blue on Tuesday as she revealed her
feelings surrounding ageism in Hollywood. Referring to recent
comments made by Oscar nominee Maggie
Gyllenhaal - who revealed that she was told that she was "too
old to play the lover of a man who was 55" - the veteran performer
didn't hold back.
"It's fucking outrageous - it's ridiculous - honestly,"
she told The Wrap.
"It's so annoying
and 'twas ever thus. You know, we all sat there watching as James
Bond got more and more geriatric and his girlfriends got younger
and younger," she laughed. "So annoying."
Gyllenhaal made her feelings on the subject - which once
again propelled the ageism-in-Hollywood debate back to the
forefront - clear last month.
"There are things that are really disappointing about
being an actress in Hollywood that surprise me all the
time. It was astonishing to me. It made me feel bad, and then
it made me feel angry, and then it made me laugh." Culled from Vogue.
