The event, which held at his alma mater, Ambrose Alli University (conferrer of the degree) took place in the LoveWorld Multipurpose Auditorium, built and donated by the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation earlier this year. The award conferment which was graced by the Comrade Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the Institution Prof. Gregory Akenzua as well as other senior citizens of the country took place on Thursday June 11, 2015, by 11am at the Loveworld Multipurpose Hall.
The university's vice chancellor, Prof Cordelia Agbebaku, had disclosed at a press conference to herald the convocation ceremony in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State that Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, PhD, among eminent Nigerians would be conferred with honorary degrees at the ceremony.
She disclosed further that the convocation ceremony would feature the formal installation of the pro-chancellor and chairman, Governing Council of AAU, Prof. G. I. Akenzua, as well as the conferment of Professor Emeritus on the former vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. J. E. A. Osemeikhan.
But due to an already scheduled global conference, the clergyman was unavoidably absent at the last convocation hence the decision by the governing council of the institution that a special convocation be organised to honour what it described as one of the very best that the AAU has offered the entire world.
